최순실 국정농단 사태에서 비롯된 박근혜 대통령 탄핵안이 국회에서 가결됐다. 국회는 본회의를 열어 박 대통령에 대한 탄핵안을 재석의원 299명 중 찬성 234 명, 반대 56 명, 기권 2명, 무효 7명으로 가결시켰다. 이 같은 표결 결과는 야당의원 172명 전원의 찬성을 전제로 새누리당에서 62명이나 찬성한 것으로 해석된다. 당초 220명 안팎이 찬성할 것이라는 정치권 안팎의 예상을 뛰어넘는 결과다. 정세균 국회의장은 표결 결과를 발표한 뒤 "이제는 헌정사에 비극이 되풀이되지 않기를 바라는 마음 간절하다"며 "이제 탄핵안이 가결된 이상 더 이상 혼란은 없어야 한다"고 강조했다. 이에 따라 탄핵소추 의결서 등본이 박 대통령에게 전달되는 이날 오후부터 박 대통령의 권한은 정지되고 황교안 총리가 대통령직 권한대행을 맡아 내치와 외교 안보를 총괄하게 된다. 박 대통령은 최순실 국정농단 사태에 분노한 시민들이 첫 촛불을 든 지 꼭 40일 만에 대통령으로서의 모든 권한을 박탈당한 채 관저에 사실상 '유폐'당하게 됐다

It was pretty convincing to impeach President Park Geun Hye. 234 lawmakers voted in favor, just 56 voted against. The realm of the two-thirds majority that they needed to impeach her, but it also means many of her own party would have voted against her. we can see the protesters a little further away. There were some fireworks let off just at the moment when it was announced the impeachment had gone ahead. There will be happy people within South Korea today, not the 56 that voted against the impeachment, and not the president herself. We now know the prime minister will take over in a caretaker role. But this certainly isn't done, not by a long shot.
